Sheryl Ann Sheri' Holthus

Sheryl Ann 'Sheri' Holthus, 60, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 6:55 a.m., Thursday, April 10, 2014 while in the company of family members, at McPherson Hospital. Sheryl Ann “Sheri” Holthus, was born in Imperial, Nebraska, on May 2, 1953, and passed away at McPherson Hospital, McPherson, Kansas at 6:55 a.m., Thursday, April 10, 2014 while in the company of family members. Sheri was the daughter of Donald Lee and Iola June (Rousselle) Egle. She was one of four children born to this union, two sons and two daughters, DeWayne, Sheri, Donna, and Lonnie. Sheri attended Eden Country School near Stratton, Nebraska and graduated from Stratton High School. She then attended one year at Fort Wayne Bible College in Fort Wayne, Indiana before transferring to McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas. This is where she met and fell in love with the man of her dreams, John. Not knowing each other until moving to McPherson, this couple actually grew up only 40 miles away from one another. Sheri graduated and received her Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education from McPherson College. Sheri Egle was united in marriage to John G. Holthus on June 2, 1974, in Imperial, Nebraska. The young couple established their first home together, in McPherson, Kansas. Sheri worked at N.C.R.A., Sterling Drug, and Johns Manville before taking on the roll of mom and full-time homemaker in 1981. John and Sheri were blessed with the birth of five children, two daughters and three sons, Hannah, Heidi, John Henry, Nathan, and Daniel. She took great pride in providing for her family and was always there for her children and anyone who might need a helping hand. After her children were in school, she later worked part-time as a graphic designer at McPherson CopyRight. Sheri was interested and involved in a number of things. Her family was very important to her, and she was especially fond of her grandchildren, always looking forward to the times they could be together. She loved sewing, knitting, quilting, cooking & baking, music, and natural health. She was an avid reader of a wide variety of things, and a diligent journaler. Most of all, Sheri was passionate about her relationship with God, and in her love for her savior, Jesus Christ. She spent time each day in devotion and communion with God, and believed His love to be the most powerful thing in the universe. She was a nurturer, encourager, and support person to her family and friends. To her husband, she was the kindest and gentlest; strongest and bravest; and most spiritual person he ever knew. A line from her journal while in San Diego in June of 2013: “In each moment be kind, be truthful, be uplifting, be grateful, be genuine and be loving.” Her wise counsel, gentle guidance, and gracious smile will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Surviving family members include her loving and devoted husband of nearly forty years, John Holthus, of McPherson, Kansas; her children, Hannah Reasoner and husband Scott, of Fort Worth, Texas, Heidi Tankersley and her husband Jacob, of Springdale, Arkansas, Henry Holthus and his partner Erica, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Nathan Holthus, of McPherson, Kansas, and Daniel Holthus, of the home; her parents, Iola and Donald Egle, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; her siblings, DeWayne Egle and his wife Deborah, of Davisburg, Michigan, Donna Sawyer and her husband Steve, of Red Oak, Iowa and Lonnie Egle and his wife Anna, of Bentonville, Arkansas; her four favorite grandchildren, Andrew and Joely Tankersley, and Eli and Issac Reasoner; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home, McPherson, Kansas. The funeral service will be held at the Countryside Covenant Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 11:00 on Monday, April 14, 2014 with Reverend Jon Black officiating. The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.
