Ray J Waldo, 81, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away at 4:45 a.m., Monday, December 22nd, 2014 at The Life Care Center, Andover, Kansas. Ray Junior Waldo, the son of Ray Lyman and Alice Virena (Swabby) Waldo, was born January 18, 1933 at McPherson, Kansas. He was one of two children born to this union a son and a daughter, Patty and Ray. He attended the Roosevelt grade school, McPherson Junior High and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1951. It was during these years Ray worked for Bixby’s Drug Store. Ray then attended Hutchinson Junior College, Hutchinson, Kansas. Ray joined the United States Navy and honorably served his Country. After returning to McPherson from the service, Ray worked for Harry Lane Supply Company before joining the McPherson Police Department where he served as an officer. Ray J. Waldo was united in marriage to Dolores Marie Hammersmith on January 12, 1963 at McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Wichita, Kansas. Ray began working for the state of Kansas with KDOT and served over forty-eight years of service retiring as Engineering Technician Sr.. He was a member of the American Legion Post 24 and McPherson Piper Club both of McPherson, Kansas, a member of the Moose Lodge # 138 of Wichita, Kansas and the Board of Technical Professionals. Ray was a loving and devoted husband, brother, uncle, and dear friend. His wise counsel, gracious smile, and sense of humor will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Although Ray and Dolores did not have children of their own, they did have nieces and nephews that they loved very much and treated as such. Ray was an avid McPherson Bullpup fan from the very beginning and always listened to the games when he could not be there in person. After moving to Wichita, Kansas he also became a W.S.U. Shocker fan as well. Ray loved working and tinkering on cars, had a passion for planes that started in his younger years in McPherson and he enjoyed watching the late night talk shows and the History Channel. Ray Junior Waldo, 81, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away at 4:45 a.m., Monday, December 22nd, at The Life Care Center, Andover, Kansas. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law Millie Keller. Ray is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 50 years, Dolores 'Dee' Waldo, of Wichita, Kansas; his sister Patty Easter and her husband Jack, of McPherson, Kansas; his brother-in-laws Steve Hammersmith and his wife Bev, of Wichita, Kansas and Milton Keller, of Tallahassee, Florida; his nephews, Michael Easter and his wife Rachel, of Hesston, Kansas, Randy Easter and his wife, Cheryl, of McPherson, Kansas, Mark Keller and his wife Jackie, of Dallas, Texas, and Marlin Keller and his wife Debbie, of Tallahassee, Florida; his nieces, Katie Shanholtzer and her husband David, of McCune, Kansas and Megan Waldren and her husband James, of Hutchinson, Kansas; great-nieces and nephews, Elizabeth and Grace; Stacie, Lisa, and Erin; Jettson; Zane, Hadley, Emerson, and Rorey; other relatives and a host of friends. Friends are invited to call on Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas with Reverend H. Dick Reynolds, Jr. officiating. Special Music “ Amazing Grace“ and “In The Garden“ will be sung by Kris Thompson. The family would like for everyone to wear something Red in honor of Ray.
