Opal Louise Peden

Opal L. Peden, 98, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 5:25 p.m., Tuesday, December 10, 2013 while in the company of family members, at Cedars Health Care Center. Opal Louise Peden, was born on August 5, 1915, the daughter of Daniel Vorice and Myrtle Elizabeth (Goode) All, on her parents farm rural McPherson, Kansas. She was one of three children, Mildred Arlene “Millie”, Opal Louise, and Wilbur Lee “Bill”, born to this union. Opal attended and graduated from Harmony Country School, rural McPherson, Kansas and McPherson High School in 1934. It was during her high school years she met and fell in love with the man of her dreams.Opal was united in marriage to Ivan Curtis Peden on June 16, 1935 at McPherson, Kansas, where the young couple established their first home together. This union was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Carolyn. Opal was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She also worked as a matron for the McPherson County Sheriffs Office while her husband Ivan was serving as Sheriff, worked as a sales person for Babyland and Morris and Sons Clothiers, and was a cook for U.S.D. 418 McPherson High School. Later, Opal and Ivan owned and operated the White Swan Cafe in McPherson from 1946 until 1976. Opal was a very friendly person and enjoyed visiting with everyone. Opal loved her family and willingly helped them in any way that she could. Opal enjoyed life to the fullest but she was happiest when she was with her family and just enjoying God’s creations. Opal was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church for all her life and in her earlier years she sang in the choir and was a member of a Sunday School Class. Opal was a member of the Elk's Lodge #502 B.P.O.E. and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 172 both of McPherson. Opal enjoyed spending time at the McPherson Senior Center, coffeed with several friends at Wendy's every afternoon, loved playing bridge and other card games, Bingo, knitting and crocheting. She was a great cook and baker and loved sharing the results with everyone and cool whip was usually the main topping. Pecan pie was also a specialty. She and Ivan made many trips to horse shows, showing their Arabian Horses. Opals greatest joy was her family, and she treasured all the times she was able to share with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Opal L. Opal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ivan C. Peden; her brother Wilbur Lee 'Bill' All and her sister, Mildred 'Millie' Britton.Surviving family members include her daughter, Carolyn D. Geiman and her husband Bob, of McPherson, Kansas; her 3 grandchildren, Kathy Smith and her husband Harold, of rural McPherson, Kent Geiman and his wife Delores, of Houston, Texas, and Kim Morris and her husband Ted A., of rural McPherson, Kansas; her 7 great-grandchildren, Brad Smith and wife Jenny, Kristen Geiman, Nicholas Geiman and wife Alicia, Nathan Geiman and wife Sara, Megan Bogener and husband James, Stephanie Dunn and husband Jared, and Danielle Morris; her 6 great-great-grandchildren, Donovan Geiman, Breck Smith, Blain Smith, Brody Smith, Ava Singleton, Aiden Bogener, and a baby girl Bogener on the way!; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.Pastor Chris Whitaker will conduct the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Glidden-Ediger Chapel in McPherson, Kansas. Special music “On Eagles Wings”, “Amazing Grace”, and “Jesus Loves Me” will be played.
