Marjorie Lucille Unruh

Moundridge- Marjorie Lucille Schmidt Unruh was born on May 28, 1926, in the rural family home of Fred A. and Edith Wadel Schmidt near Greensburg, KS. She peacefully passed away on December 7, 2015 at Moundridge Manor. She spent her childhood years in Greensburg, KS where she received 12 years of formal education in the Greensburg School System. She received her teaching certificate from Hesston College. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and visiting on the phone with her many friends. On December 21, 1946 she was married to Dennis Unruh who was her loving companion for over 67 years. Their early married years were spent in Kansas and California. They were blessed with 2 sons, Bruce and Donavon. In 1953 they purchased a home in a rural area SE of Butler, MO, where they resided for 55 years. Mother worked in nursing homes and for private individuals as a caregiver. In 1954 Marjorie together with her husband dedicated their lives to God and she was baptized, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite of Rich Hill Missouri. Dad was ordained to the ministry on January 23, 1957 at Rich Hill Missouri. Mother was a great encouragement to him in his calling. The family left for a 3 year term of mission work in Nigeria, Africa in November of 1963. This term was the beginning of many years overseas. When not on the mission field, Rich Hill was their home where dad served as a pastor of the congregation. In their retirement years, dad and mother left their farm in Missouri to be near their sons and their families in Uvalde, TX. The Uvalde congregation embraced them as grandpa and grandma. We as a family would like to express appreciation to the Manor staff for their loving care of our mother and grandmother. Those left to cherish her memories are her two sons, Bruce and wife Marilyn of Uvalde, Texas, Donavon and wife Priscilla of La Pryor, Texas; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 brother Freddie and wife Peggy of Hutchinson, Kansas; 3 brothers-in-law Paul Unruh of Hutchinson, Kansas, La Vern Koehn of Colorado, and Eldon and wife Elnora of Naples, Florida; 1 sister-in-law Jo Ann Unruh Butler of Missouri. She was proceeded in death by her loving husband Dennis, her parents, brother Leland, 3 sisters Beuna, Ruby, and Alta Mae, parents-in-law Elmer and Melinda, 2 brothers-in-law Dale Unruh and Ivan Unruh, and 3 sisters-in-law Opal Schmidt, Mary Ann Unruh, and Myrna Unruh.
