John M.(Mel) Davis

John M. (Mel) Davis, 77, of , , passed away at 11:33 a.m., Thursday, September 10th, peacefully, at Brookdale Hutchinson, Hutchinson, Kansas. Mel was born in Lindsborg, Kansas on May 13, 1938, a son of Ruth L. (Olson) and John R. Davis.Mel attended Lindsborg Grade School and graduated from Lindsborg High School, Lindsborg, Kansas.Mel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of McPherson where he served his church through the years teaching Sunday school, helping with the youth groups, bible study, and in other capacities. Mel honorably served in the U.S. Navy as a QM2 (E-5) in the Korean War. Mel worked for Cessna in Hutchinson, Kansas and then started his career with McPherson Board of Public Utilities in May of 1971 working in the Electric Service Department as a lineman. Mel retired in June of 2003. Mel was a member of the Elks Club, a Cub Scout volunteer and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Mel enjoyed life, fishing, his family; especially his grandchildren, family vacations, his work family at BPU, and watching his kids in their activities. John Mellroy 'Mel' Davis was united in marriage to Mildred Ann Pearson on October 13, 1962 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. Mel is survived by his wife of fifty three years, Mildred 'Millie' Davis, of Hutchinson, Kansas; his children, Melissa Holcom and her husband Chasson, of Culver, Kansas, Mike Davis and his wife Jennifer, of Salina, Kansas, and Monnie King and his wife Kelly, of South Hutchinson, Kansas; his siblings, Elva Dauber and her husband Duane, of El Dorado, Kansas, Bernice Moser, of Guttenberg, Iowa, and Raymond Davis, of El Dorado, Kansas; his 16 grandchildren, Haleigh Burkhart, Chase Burkhart, Levi Holcom, Garrette Holcom, Madison Holcom, Michael Ray Davis, Brittney Davis, Dane Borger, Meghann Borger, Allyson Borger, Olivia Borger, Chloe Davis, Casey King, Bradly King, John Leslie, and Chris Leslie; his three great-grandchildren with two more on the way!, Sienna, Dominic, and Eliana; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.Mel was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Rose Frisbee, Virginia Ferguson, and Lucille Davis.Visitation will be held on Monday, September 14, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson. The funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 10:30 on Tuesday, September 15th, with The Reverend Tim Leaf officiating. Military honors will be presented by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 and American Legion Post 24, both of McPherson.Burial will be private and at a later date.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in memory of Mel, and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
