Irvin John Schroeder

Buhler- Irvin John Schroeder, 94, died July 5, 2016. He was born June 25, 1922, to Henry H. and Margaretha (Neufeldt) Schroeder in rural Moundridge. He was the ninth child of ten children, nine brothers and one sister. He attended a one room country school, Buhler High School and Tabor Academy. During this time at Tabor he accepted Christ as his Savior at a revival meeting and was baptized the next year in Finimor Lake by P. R. Lange and joined the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. Since he was the youngest in the family, he helped his father on the Schroeder home place. He married Esther L. Klaassen, in Hillsboro, on May 15, 1945. They lived with his parents two years while his parents were building their retirement house in Buhler. Building materials were hard to get during and after World War II. He was an advocate for soil conservation to preserving the good soil God had loaned to him, and won numerous awards. He farmed in the summer and worked many different jobs in the winter. He enjoyed repairing and building farm machinery. In 1986, his nephew, Richard Schroeder took over the farming. Irvin and Esther built a small house and shop and moved to Buhler, just one half block south of the church. Irvin made use of all his tools and welding supplies to weld many projects that were needed in the church and community. After living there for 25 years, they noticed their strength and health declining and moved into the Assisted Living of Sunshine Meadows Retirement Center in 2011. The Lord has blessed beyond measure and given many opportunities to serve Him in church and community. Survivors include: three daughters, Connie (Elmer) Cook of Grove, OK, Lynett Wheeler of Cleveland, MO, Ruth (Tim) Quiring of Sylva NC; six grandchildren: Doug (Deanna) Lietzke, Mark (Stephanie) Lietzke, Amanda (Brian) Wheeler-Ortiz, Asa Wheeler, Jesse (Katie) Quiring, Tracie (Rob) Krenek; six great-grandchildren: Ryan Lietzke, Janson and Jaden Lietzke, Noah and Lizzie Quiring, and Damon Krenek; and one brother-in- law, Wilbert Regier. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Esther; sister, Frieda Siemens; brothers, Samual, Henry, Art, Walter, Meno, Herb, Alvin and Eldo; and son-in- law, Fredric Wheeler. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016, at 1:00 pm at the Sunshine Meadows Retirement Chapel, 400 S. Buhler Rd., Buhler, Kansas. Family will have a private inurnment. Memorials may be to the charity of your choice in remembrance of Irvin Schroeder, in care of Buhler Mortuary.
