Viola R. "Vi" Schultz

Viola Ruth Schultz, 90, of Buhler, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler. She was born on December 8, 1931, in Wolf Point, Montana, the daughter of Adolph and Anna Funk. Vi attended school in Wolf Point, Montana until her family moved to Hillsboro, Kansas when she was in 2nd grade. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1949. Vi worked with Lovella Adrian, sorting coupons by numerical amounts and issuing companies for 15 years. She took great pride in helping Lovella with her coupon service business and enjoyed working for/with her friend. She then moved on to working at the Sunshine Meadows Retirement Center, first as a CNA and then overseeing transportation where she managed a crew of wonderful volunteers who drove the van to transport residents to appointments. She took great pride in caring for each resident and ensuring they were well-cared for during their doctor visits and the rides to and from. Vi worked for Sunshine Meadows for more than 30 years. Vi was united in marriage to John Schultz on November 8, 1952, in Hillsboro. They spent just short of 69 years together as partners in love and life before John was called home to Heaven on July 3rd. Vi loved her family and cherished the time she spent with each them. She is now reunited with John in Glory. Vi was a woman of faith. She was a member of the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. She enjoyed attending services and worshipping in her own, quiet way. She enjoyed decorating her home for Christmas and displaying the many nativity sets she had collected. She loved collecting which was evident by her many teddy bears (John bought her the first one), Beanie Babies, porcelain angels, and other trinkets that gave her joy. She enjoyed baking everything from pies and cakes to zwieback and cinnamon rolls. Their home was never lacking for sweets. Vi liked watching Royals’ baseball games on television and rarely missed a game . . . even though she had always been a NY Yankees fan. She felt at home at Sunshine Meadows, having spent so much time there, which helped in the transition when she and John moved in to Assisted Living during the summer of 2019. Vi is survived by her daughter, Donna Hensley and her husband, Allan, of Nampa, ID; son, Darrell Schultz and his wife, Christi, of Buhler; along with the following grandchildren and great-grandchildren: April and her husband, Keith; Meggan and her husband, Brandon; Taylor and her fiancé, Kody; Kacie and her husband, Michael; Jace; Kedrin, Makenzie, Kyler, Ethan, Taylee, Weston, Alec, and Emeree. Vi was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Schultz; her daughter, Debbie Maberry and her husband, Dave; four brothers: LaVern Funk and his first wife, Maxine; Arlie Funk and his wife, Aldine; Marvin Funk and his wife, Esther; and Loyal Funk; and two sisters: Alice Funk and Grace Weber. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Buhler MB Church. Burial will take place 10:00 a.m. prior to the service, at Buhler Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6:30 p.m., Friday, January 28, at Buhler Mortuary, with the family present from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The memorial service can be viewed on the church's Facebook page, Buhler MB Church.
