Pamela Kay Bacon

Pamela Kay Bacon, 70 of Canton, died January 24, 2024 at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born August 25, 1953 in McPherson, the daughter of William A. "Bud" and Pearl L. (Winter) Besecker. She graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1971 and had been a Canton resident for 56 years, moving from Roxbury. On June 8, 1974 she was united in marriage to Van C. Bacon at the Grace Lutheran Church in McPherson. This union was blessed with four children, Jennifer, Jolene, Justin and Jessica. Pam had a passion for various activities, including fishing, gardening, cooking, and baking. She cherished moments with her children and grandchildren and found solace in her 'happy place' at the lake, surrounded by family. Her wanderlust extended beyond the lake, where she loved traveling with family and friends across the globe. After high school, she pursued cosmetology at Sidney's Hairdressing College and later established her beauty shop, Pam's Petite, in Canton. Over the years, she expanded her professional journey by working at Sterling Drug, opening an ice cream shop called Sweet Treats, and running an in-home daycare. In addition to those endeavors, she dedicated time to education, serving as a substitute teacher and para-educator at Canton-Galva High School. Beyond her professional roles, she opened her home to foster children and welcomed foreign exchange students. Engaging with the community, she played a vital role in organizations like Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H, and the Canton Senior Center, making a lasting impact across all age groups. Pam was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Canton, Canton American Legion Auxiliary and the McPherson VFW Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband Van; son Justin Bacon of Kansas City, Missouri; daughters, Jennifer (Sean) Wilson, Inman, Jolene (David) Schmidt, Canton and Jessica (Matthew) Boller, Lenexa; her mother, Pearl Besecker, Inman; brother, Robert ( Peggy) Besecker, Benton, Wisconsin; sister, Judy Jennings, Lakin; six grandchildren; her canine companion, Nalla and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, in-laws John and Hazel Bacon, and brothers in law, Larry Bacon and Russ Jennings. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Canton. Interment will be in Canton Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Olson's Mortuary, Canton.
