Norma Ruth Neufeldt

Norma Ruth Enns Neufeldt, aged 85, passed away Sunday morning, October 22, 2017 at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community surrounded by her family. Born on September 28, 1932 in Congo, Africa, the third child of pioneer missionaries, Ruth spent the entirety of her life desiring for people to experience the love of Jesus. Returning from Africa to her parent’s home of Inman, KS in high school, Ruth soon met and fell in love with Emerson Neufeldt. They were married on June 8, 1952 in Bethel Mennonite Church, Ruth’s home church, and were blessed by four children, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Emerson and Ruth were deeply involved in their local community, becoming committed members at Buhler MB Church, leading and championing women’s Friendship Bible Coffees, hosting the “Thursday Night Bible Study” for career singles, establishing Neufeldt’s Carpet & Flooring, and participating in countless other community events and programs. After faithfully caring for her husband through years of chronic illness, Emerson was received in heaven by Jesus Sept. 4, 2011. As throughout the course of her life, Ruth treated each season as a new opportunity to share the love of Jesus with other people, and widowhood was no different. Those who had the opportunity to know her, remember “Grandma” Ruth’s commitment to prayer, financial support of countless missionaries and ministries, memorization of Bible verses, care for the Harvest Hills neighborhood, and the spirit of joy which contagiously spread to all those she had contact with. Among those who rejoice most fervently in her life are her children and their spouses, grandchildren, and great grandchildren: Joyce & Richard (Dick) Nelson, Richard (Rick) & Christina Nelson, Cherie Nelson, Mark Nelson; Diana (Dee) & Jeffrey (Jeff) Rheingans, Andrew (Andy) & Katie Rheingans, Anna, Christa Rheingans; Philip (Phil) & Renay Neufeldt, Tiffany & Jake Graunke, John Wayne (deceased), Tracie & Jason Hildebrandt, Tara & Jesse Allen; Michael (Mike) & Sherrie Neufeldt, Hollyn Neufeldt. Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Hebron Church Cemetery, Buhler. The celebration services of Ruth’s life will be held Wednesday, October 25 at 10:30 am at Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 24 from 5-7 p.m. at Buhler Mortuary. In lieu of flowers and in light of Ruth’s heart for others to know Jesus, memorials may be made to the Ruth Neufeldt Memorial Missions Fund to support mission efforts here and abroad.
