Mary "Lou" Louise Wheeler

Mary "Lou" Louise Wheeler, 90, of Hesston, KS passed away Friday, November 17, 2023, at Schowalter Villa, Hesston, Kansas. Mary Lou was born in Larned, Kansas on December 11, 1932, a daughter of Francis Joseph Finger, Sr. and Clara Cecilia (Demel) Finger. Mary Lou attended the Sacred Heart Catholic School, and graduated from Larned High School, Larned, Kansas in 1950. She then attended Barton Community College, Great Bend, Kansas. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McPherson. Mary Lou was a member of the Altar Society and was an organist for Catholic Church's in Larned, Wallace, La Crosse, and Great Bend. Through the years Mary Lou was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She also worked as a Clerk for the Rush County Treasurer's office from 1967 to 1975, was Probate Judge from 1975 to 1981 for Rush County; 1982 to 1989 she was a Pension Coordinator for C.P.I. of Great Bend, Kansas; and 1990 to 2000 was the Executive Secretary for Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, Kansas and served as Relief Secretary and Volunteer to June 2003. Mary Lou was a volunteer for Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Schowalter Villa, Hesston, Kansas. She also attended morning Bible Study group at Hickory Homes, Hesston. Mary Lou enjoyed music, playing the organ for her church family, she made the best pies in the world and was a wonderful seamstress! Mary Lou Finger was united in marriage to William H. Wheeler on June 12, 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, Kansas. She is survived by her children, William E. Wheeler, of Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. James A. Wheeler, of Goshen, Indiana, Cecelia A. Wheeler, of McPherson, Kansas, Karen S. Wheeler, of Wichita, Kansas, David L. Wheeler, of Wichita, Kansas, and John Paul "Father Peter" Wheeler, of Buena Vista, Colorado; 8 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Patricia Ann Wheeler and Mary Elaine Grabhorn; sisters, Mildred Phillips, Dorothy Cavenah, Catherine Kuhlman and Carolyn Urban; and brothers, Leonard Finger, Marvin Finger and Francis Finger, Jr. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas with Fr. Ben Shockey officiating. Service will be livestreamed on YouTube - St. Joseph McPherson. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. at Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, Kansas, Schowalter Villa or Hesston Library and may be sent to Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid, McPherson, Kansas 67460.
