Marie A. Siemens

Marie Alice Strauss Siemens was born May 29, 1930 to John L. and Marie D. (Schroeder) Strauss in Lakin, Kansas. She had 4 sisters, Edna, Leona, Malinda and Rosella; and two brothers, Arnold and John. The family lived in Lakin until 1935 and moved to the Schroeder farm near Buhler. She attended Willow Grove School and transferred to Buhler Grade School when she was a 7th grader. She became friends with 7 other girls in Middle School. They were known as the “Crazy Eight”. They would remain friends for life, often getting together for lunches. Several of them are here today. After High School she started working at the 5 and 10 store in Hutchinson. She had several other jobs including the Buhler Crusader Grill and the meat counter at Franz Grocery Store before she became restless and decided to go into Voluntary Christian Service. This took her and 2 friends to Governor Bacon Health Center in Wilmington, Delaware. She worked in the alcohol rehab unit and Mental Health Wards. After returning home she worked nights in the nursery at Grace Hospital. Marie came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior while attending a Revival Tent meeting following a message by Clifford Lewis. She was baptized in Finnamore Lake September 1942 by Rev. P. R. Lange. She was an active lifetime member of the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. Floyd Siemens called her for a first date in 1948. They had known each other in High School and Church. They were married in 1952. They worked together at the family business of custom harvesting for 40 years. Their growing family includes 4 children and their spouses, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Edna, Leona, Malinda and Rosella (who died in infancy) and her brother Arnold. She will be missed by her Husband, Floyd Siemens; her children Cynthia (Perry) Koehn, Mark (Sheila) Siemens, Tom (Mary) Siemens, Christine (Alan) McFerren; her grandchildren, Ryan (Erin) Koehn, Laurie Koehn, Clinton (Lindsey) Koehn, Clayton Siemens, Baylee Siemens, Molly (Bruce) Yoder, Amanda McFerren, and Shelby McFerren; her Great Grandchildren, Joshua Koehn, Matthew Koehn and Colby Koehn; and other members of her extended family. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, November 6th, 2016 at Buhler Mortuary. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 7th, 2016 at Buhler Township Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Reno County or to the Mennonite Brethren Church, both in care of Buhler Mortuary.
