Lloyd Mason Headrick

Lloyd Mason Headrick, 89, of Hesston Kansas, passed away from this life on June 19, 2023 at Schowalter Villa, Hesston, Kansas. Lloyd was born along with his twin brother, Floyd, on November 7, 1933 in Cheraw Co. to John Henry and Dessie Headrick. Lloyd grew up on the farm in Cheraw, Colorado until high school, when he went to Hesston Academy in Hesston, Kansas. The Headrick family were self-sustaining on their farm in Cheraw. They grew a huge garden each year, butchered their own cows, pigs, and chickens. And each child had their own chores that they were responsible to fulfill. The Headrick family attended East Holbrook Mennonite Church in Cheraw, Colorado. It was a simple church, that stressed a simple way of life, not extravagant. This simplicity had quite an impact on all of the children and how they lived their lives. They were taught the importance of being a part of the life of the church, the Mennonite church, and living with Christian values. Lloyd continued his Christian journey as a member of Hesston Mennonite Church. Lloyd met and married, Wanda Welty Headrick, in Hesston. Lloyd was a conscientious objector and fulfilled his duty through 1W service at a hospital in Denver, Colorado. Lloyd’s sister, Rose and her husband Lonnie fulfilled their service at that time as well and the two couples shared many fond and happy memories in Colorado. Lloyd and Wanda’s first daughter, Denise, was born in Colorado and following their 1W service they moved back to Hesston the remainder of their lives. Lloyd was a journeyman plumber and worked with his father-in-law for a number of years and then went to work for Paul’s Inc. in Hesston, Kansas for the remainder of his career. Additionally, Peggy, Jackie, and Kyle were born in Newton and completed the family. Lloyd was always the “fun” father. He loved being outdoors and playing games with his children and all the neighborhood kids. Lloyd helped coach many baseball teams and he and Wanda taught Sunday school class at Hesston Mennonite Church. In his later years, Lloyd collected diecast cars and trucks and enjoy going to auction to find treasures. Lloyd was full of orneriness and had a great sense of humor. Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda (Welty); his parents, John Henry and Dessie Headrick; his siblings, Howard Headrick, Floyd Headrick, Dorothy Harden, Harold Headrick, Melvin Headrick, Clifford Headrick and Marge Schmucker. Lloyd is survived by his four children; daughters, Denise (Bruce) Krase of Newton, Kansas, Peggy (Marlin) Sieber of Mansfield, Illinois, Jackie (Glenn) Randol of Wichita, Kansas and son, Kyle Headrick, of Hillsboro, Kansas; grandchildren, Nick (Kylie) Dillon, Luke (Tiffany) Dillon, Kelli (Stan) McClurg, Alli Krase, Lyndsey (Josh) Jantz, Breanne Creamer, and Travis (Katie) Sieber. Lloyd was also great-grandfather to Drew and Cole Dillon, Lyndon and Kaden Dillon, Harvey and Elsie McClurg, Reese and Piper Jantz, Rylee Creamer, Brayden Monares, and Brynlee Sieber. Lloyd is also survived by his brother, Don Headrick of Pennsylvania; and sisters, Rosetta Kauffman of Oklahoma, and Joyce (Harold) Shetler of Idaho. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 23, 2023 at Schowalter Villa Chapel, Hesston. Private family burial will take place at Eastlawn Cemetery, rural Hesston. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 22, at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston.
