Lloyd W. "Bill" Boyle Jr.

Lloyd William Boyle Jr. was born on November 17, 1931 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Lloyd William Sr. and Lillian Francis (Booher) Boyle. “Bill”, as he was known by his family and friends, grew up and attended school in the Burrton, Kansas area and was a graduate of the University of Kansas. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On January 21, 1957 he was united in marriage to Thelma Irene McGrew in Wichita, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children, Kathryn and Michael. Irene preceded him in death on April 29, 1973. Bill married Claudine Klatt on December 22, 1978 at the Canton United Methodist Church in Canton, Kansas and they made their home in Canton. She preceded him in death on December 13, 2003. During most of his lifetime, Bill was a salesman. He sold pharmaceuticals for Fox Vliet, cars in McPherson and later sold gifts and home décor of all kinds for Eddie Parker from Texas. He owned and operated the Post Rock Restaurant and Motel in Lincoln, Kansas for many years and had an antique/furniture store in Galva, Kansas. He was an active member of the Canton American Legion Post #192 where he served in many capacities. Bill was also a member of the Canton United Methodist Church, the V.F.W. and the Kansas University Alumni Association. Bill was very proud of his Irish heritage and loved telling about his travels to Ireland. Having the knack for being an excelled salesman, he definitely had the “gift of gab”. He always had a joke or story for anyone he came in contact with and there was never a dull moment whenever he was around. Bill was also proud to be a Kansas University graduate and was an avid follower of KU athletics. He thoroughly enjoyed collecting art, antiques and glassware, playing cards and most of all visiting with family and friends. Bill entered into eternal rest on Thursday afternoon, February 20, 2014 at Sterling House in McPherson, Kansas after a lengthy illness. Survivors include his daughter, Kathryn (David) Boyle of Derby, Kansas; his son, Michael (Alexandra) Boyle, Derby, Kansas; step sons, Jay (Lois) Klatt, Pierce City, Missouri and Eugene (Linda) Klatt, Canton, Kansas; six grandchildren; five step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, February 25, 2014 at the Canton United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Canton Township Cemetery. Friends may call Monday evening, February 24, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Olson's Mortuary, Canton. Memorials have been established with the church or the Canton American Legion Post #192, in care of the mortuary.
