Larry L. Klinkerman

Larry Klinkerman, 84, passed away June 3, 2023 at McPherson Health & Rehab, McPherson, surrounded by members of his family. He was born on April 22, 1939 in McPherson, the son of Lawrence H. and Neva V. (Davis) Klinkerman. He graduated from Canton High School in 1958 and served his country for six years in the Army National Guard of Kansas and as a Reserve of the Army. He was united in marriage to Marie B. Sadey on June 2, 1963 at the Canton United Methodist Church, and they were blessed with three sons, Kim, Kevin and Troy. They lived on the Klinkerman Ranch north of Canton where Larry resided and worked as a farmer for himself, as well as other farmers in the area, his entire life. He was a member of the Canton Community Church. Larry was a skilled marksman, and won many awards for his excellence in marksmanship. He was a member of the Smoky Valley Long Rifle Club, as well as the Ontario Trappers Association. Larry was a mountain man at heart and an avid trapper and shipped many furs to Burlington, Iowa, which were then sold to Canada for auction. He loved hunting, hiking, and collecting local artifacts, and would participate in the many Mountain Man Rendezvous activities and competitions over the years. He was honored to host an annual Mountain Man reenactment on Klinkerman Ranch pasture land. His passion for living life as a true mountain man was evidenced by his vast knowledge, expert skills, and rarely seen talents in today's world, and he passed his love of all these things on to his children and grandchildren. He is survived by Marie Klinkerman, his wife of 60 years; his three sons, Kim (Lisa) Klinkerman and Kevin (Christina) Klinkerman, all of the Canton area and Troy (Debbie) Klinkerman of Council Bluffs, Iowa; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, June 25 from 2-3 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at the Canton Community Church, 304 Allen St., Canton, KS with Pastor Mike Miller officiating. An inurnment service will follow at the Canton Township Cemetery with military rites provided by the Kansas Army National Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Kansas Youth Rodeo Association (CKYRA) or the church, in care of Olson's Mortuary, Canton.
