Kenneth L. Geren

Kenneth Lee Geren, 69, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 7:02 a.m., Sunday, July 31st, 2016 at McPherson Hospital. Kenny was born in Cherryvale, Kansas on August 1, 1946. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 43 years, Susan Geren; his children Andrew Geren, Ray Geren and his wife Kate, and Tammy Geren; his siblings Jimmy Geren and his wife Susan, Alvin Geren and his wife Margaret, Thelma Teasley, Sue Robertson and her husband John Harper, Bertha Cutsinger, and Patricia King; his grandchildren Adam Delort, Jacob Fasse, James Fasse, and Lillah Geren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Ora Jane (Musgrove) and Floyd Ray Geren; his brother Leon Geren; his sister Marjorie Williams; his niece Kay Williams and his nephew Jeff Robertson.He attended Cherryvale grade school, Park School, McPherson Junior High and graduated from McPherson High School in 1965. Kenny started off his career as an appliance repair apprentice for the Cee Jay Company. He then worked briefly in the oil fields and also for a short time at Kit Manufacturing. Kenny then revived his career in appliance repair at Poor John's Appliance Service before then working as an appliance technician at Crabbs Town and Country Store. After several years of hard work and experience Kenny started his own appliance repair shop, Authorized Service, that later became S&K repair which he ran for 40 years.Kenny was united in marriage to Susan Kay Skelton for 43 years. The young couple established their home together in McPherson and started building their family. Then prior to the high school graduation of the two youngest children the family moved into a historic farm house outside of Inman Kansas. Kenny was very proud of the old farm house and its property, devoting his time to mowing, garden work and tending to his chickens, turkeys and farm dogs Digger, Blue and Bandit. After living in the old farm house for 12 years the structure was preserved and moved to the Inman Museum while the family relocated back to McPherson. Kenny loved his family and was a dear friend to many. He was a generous man who always put others before himself. Kenny will be greatly missed.The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 7th, 2016 at 11am at the First United Methodist Church, in McPherson, Kansas, with Reverend Darren Frazier officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Kenneth L. Geren Memorial Fund care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home 222 West Euclid Street McPherson, Ks 67460.
