Kathryn Shirley Vogts

Kathryn Shirley Vogts, 86, of Moundridge, Kansas, entered her Heavenly Home peacefully on February 28, 2025, at Pine Village, surrounded by her family. Kathryn was born on October 3, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri, and was adopted shortly after birth by Jacob and Loreen Schrag. They raised her on their family farm where she learned the values of hard work and dedication to family. She grew up attending Calvary Church, where she was baptized on September 10, 1950. She graduated from Moundridge High School in 1956. In later years, she became a member of the Meridian Baptist Church in Newton. Kathryn was the best steward of Christ, leading her children and grandchildren in their faith and inspiring them with her strong devotion. On June 29, 1956, Kathryn married Edward Vogts in Bremerton, Washington. Together, they shared nearly 62 years of marriage until Ed's passing on January 31, 2018. Their life together was filled with love, faith, and a deep commitment to family. In 1960, Ed and Kathryn started Vogts Earthmoving, which they operated successfully until 1985 when they sold the business to their sons, Mark and Al. Afterward, Kathryn worked as the secretary for the Moundridge Senior Center, where she became a familiar and beloved face to many, especially her grandchildren, who often visited her there while she was working. In her free time, Kathryn was an avid quilter, and enjoyed cooking her favorite recipes for her family. Kathryn is survived by her children: son Mark (Joyce) Vogts of Moundridge; daughter Jenny (Scot) Loyd of Galva, daughter-in-law Jennifer Vogts of Bel Aire. She was a cherished grandmother to eight grandchildren: Lindsey (Matt) Begnoche, Emily (Chris) Metcalf, Amber (Matt Wilder) Vogts, Aaron (Lindsay) Vogts, Katie (Justin) Kaufman, Jessie (Daniel) Borgen, Avery (Ethan Oltean) Vogts, and Ethan (Katy) Loyd. She also leaves behind eleven great-grandchildren, with two more expected this year. Kathryn is survived by her siblings: brother Tom (Jeri) Schrag of Hesston and sister Karen (John) Roberts of Moundridge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Loreen Schrag; her husband, Edward Vogts; her son, Alan Vogts; and her brother James B. Schrag. Kathryn will be remembered for her loving and nurturing spirit, her unwavering faith, and her devotion to her family. Her legacy of kindness, love, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the Mound Township Cemetery, with memorial services to follow at 3:30 p.m., at the Meridian Baptist Church, Newton. Friends may call from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 7, at the Moundridge Funeral Home, with family present from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Moundridge Senior Center or Meridian Baptist Church in Kathryn's honor in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, PO Box 410, Moundridge, KS 67107.
