Hazel L. Critchlow

Hazel Lucille Dielman Critchlow, 95, of Canton died Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Angel Arms, McPherson. She was born on June 30, 1918 in Hannibal, Missouri, the daughter of Enos and Mary (Oldfield) Farrell. She lived in Canton most of her life and graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1936. Hazel also took two years of nurses training at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Hutchinson. She married Ted Dielman in August of 1938 at McPherson. In 1949, she and Ted owned and operated Ted’s Café in Canton for eight years. After the sale of the café, Hazel began employment with the Farmers State Bank and Trust Co. in Canton as a teller; then advanced to Vice-President. She retired after 28 years of service. Ted preceded her in death in February of 1978. Hazel married Jack Critchlow in October of 1978 in Ellinwood. After retiring, she worked part time at the bank and also worked two years as a nurse’s aide for Shiloh Manor Nursing Home. Jack preceded her in death in March of 1998. Hazel was a member of the Canton Christian Church, Order of Eastern Star, Canton American Legion Auxiliary and the Canton Senior Center, serving as an officer for all of them. She was a former member of the Canton school board and the Canton-Galva school board after unification. Hazel also served as a volunteer EMT for the Canton Ambulance Service and was a former member of the McPherson County Council on Aging. Survivors include a son Terry (Karen) Dielman, Colleyville, Texas; a step-son, Joe (Carol) Critchlow, Clearwater; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Dielman, Green Valley, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Della Farrell, McPherson; three grandchildren; two step-grandsons and three great grandchildren. A son, Teddy Dielman, four brothers, Eugene, Edward, Glen and Allen Farrell and three sisters, Lily, Estella and Armida preceded her in death. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Canton Christian Church. Burial will be in Canton Township Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening, August 8, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Olson’s Mortuary, Canton. Memorials have been established with the church or the Canton Senior Center, in care of the mortuary.
