Donald Ray Westbrook

Donald Ray Westbrook was born May 29, 1951 to Frank and Bonnie Keagle Westbrook at McPherson County Hospital, McPherson, Kansas. He was very proud to be the oldest of three children. Don was a lifetime resident of Canton, Kansas until his recent move to Newton, Kansas to be closer to his wife of 52 years. He graduated from Canton High School in May of 1969. He began his strong work ethic delivering milk as a young boy clear through to his early high school years. After a brief bout of pneumonia, he moved on to working at the Tip-Top Dairies in Hillsboro, Kansas. His first and last real-world job began at Hesston Corp (later known as Hay & Forage, then AGCO). While working at Hesston Corp, he enlisted and served as a corporal in the United States Army from January 1971-January 1973 during the Vietnam War era. Upon discharge, he returned to his employment at Hesston Corp until his retirement in 2014. Don married Ladonna Mae Schlicht on March 9, 1973 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Canton, Kansas, where he later became a member until his death. This union was blessed with three children, Heather Dawn, Johanna Mae and Dale Ray. One of his greatest joys was following his children and grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews. If he wasn’t with the grandchildren, you could often find him on his lawnmower or tinkering with a car. His dogs and grand dogs also held a special place in his heart. Donald Ray Westbrook entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at his home in Newton surrounded by his family at the age of 74 years, three months and 16 days. Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Ladonna; children, Heather (John) McCage of Grand Prairie, Texas, Johanna Dawes of McPherson, Kansas and Dale (Amber) Westbrook of Kansas City, Missouri; siblings, Marvin (Darla) Westbrook of Galva, Kansas and Janet (Russ) Margreiter of Maize, Kansas. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren, Thayne, Jacob (Kelsie) and Jalen McCage, Logan, Jaiden and Kinsey Dawes, Aiden Moore, Addy, Aimel and Alaric Westbrook and two great grandsons, John and Jordan Fuller, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Canton with Pastor Troy Slater presiding. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on October 4, 2025 at the church. Memorials have been established with the church or Good Shepherd Hospice, in care of Olson's Mortuary, Canton.
