Anne B. Hobbs

Anne B Hobbs, 91, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away Friday, July 4th, 2014 peacefully. Anne B. Hobbs, the daughter of Ralph W. and Mary Edna (Fagan) Brundage, was born January 21, 1923 at Norwalk, Connecticut. She was one of five children born to this union, one son and four daughters: Jean, Barbara, Anne, Judith, and Jay. Anne attended the Norwalk grade schools and graduated from Norwalk High School, Norwalk, Connecticut. She then attended and graduated from Stamford Hospital School of Nursing in Stamford, Connecticut in 1944 and received her RN degree.Anne was united in marriage to William Ward “Bill” Hobbs on March 31, 1945 at Newtown, Connecticut. The young couple returned to McPherson for two years and then moved to Wakefield, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, two sons and one daughter: Leslie Anne, Christopher Scott, and Lynn Ward. Anne was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. Once the children were in school, Anne returned to her nursing career which included working in a variety of fields of nursing. In 1958 Anne and her family moved to Topeka, Kansas where they stayed until 1970 when they returned to McPherson. Anne and Bill were members of the Church of the Brethren where she served as a Deacon and on various committees. She was a charter member of the McPherson County Humane Society and volunteered at the animal shelter. Anne was also an honorary member of the McPherson Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, various nurse's organizations, and the American Lighthouse Foundation. On October 13, 1999 Anne and her family were deeply saddened by the death of her beloved Bill. They had the gift of sharing fifty-four years of marriage together. In 2001, Anne moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be closer with family.Anne was a devoted Christian, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, nurse, and dear friend. Her wise counsel, gentle guidance, and gracious smile will be missed by those who knew and loved her. She had a deep and abiding love for her children and always wanted the best for them. She thoroughly enjoyed watching them in their activities and was their strongest supporter. She was especially fond of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always looking forward to their visits and times they would share together. She and Bill enjoyed taking several trips together with their family. Anne B. Hobbs, 91, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away Friday, July 4th, 2014 peacefully. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Ralph, her daughter, Leslie Anne Hobbs; her husband Bill; and two sisters, Jean Wilson and Barbara Brundage. Surviving family members include her sons, Chris Hobbs and his wife Cathy of Lincoln, Nebraska and Lynn Hobbs and his wife Linda of Hutchinson, Kansas; her brother, Jay Brundage of Lincoln, Nebraska; a sister, Judy Hegar of Norwalk, Connecticut; her grandchildren, Ty Delley and her husband Rochelle of Lincoln, Nebraska, Ben Hobbs and his wife Laura of Syracuse, Nebraska, Katie Stelzer and her husband Mike of Lincoln, Nebraska, Emily Stutzman and her husband Sam of Lincoln, Nebraska, Melissa Funk of Wichita, Kansas, Jake Funk and his wife Ali of Kansas City, Kansas, and Katie Dyck and her husband Aaron of Kansas City, Kansas; 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Visitation for Anne will be held on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Church of the Brethren, McPherson, Kansas with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating. Special music “How Great Thou Art” will be sung and accompanied by Mike Stelzer, Trumpeter, Richard Guse will play “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” and “Here, O My Lord” with Joyce Hall accompanying, Jake Funk will sing “Comfort Thee My Lord”, and Mike Stelzer and Jake Funk will sing and play “Amazing Grace”, Joyce Hall, organist, will play prelude and postlude.The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas.
